One of our loyal advocates and friends, Denise Bohn Stewart, died tragically in April 2016. The former co-host on the 98.3 The Coast radio show, “Denise & Jonny in the Morning” and previous award-winning reporter for news station WSBT-TV, Denise willingly covered stories about Carousel happenings. One of her biggest contributions to the community was her leadership of the annual Paint Our Town Pink fundraisers for breast cancer research and patient/family assistance.
Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s Christmas in July
Do you know where Santa and Mrs. Claus like to vacation in July? Right here, of course! We’re the coolest place to be! So, bring your family and friends on Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 10 p.m., and fill your hearts with joy!
Did you know that the idea for carousels dates back 1,500 years? Historians have discovered that baskets were lashed to a center pole and people were spun around in circles in ancient Byzantium. Or, did you know that in 1500 A.D. French knights would challenge each other to snag a suspended small ring with their lances as they spun around on a platform astride wooden, headless mounts? That led to craftsmen making horse figures on turning platforms for village children.
Feel on top of the world during Founders' Week, June 19-26
It’s time for our annual celebration of the two men who created hours of fun for millions of visitors to St. Joseph, Michigan between 1891 and 1971. Logan Drake and Louis Wallace built the Silver Beach Amusement Park just down the road from the Carousel. Children and adults had the thrill of being on top of the world on the Big Eli Ferris Wheel, whirling on the carousel, roaring (and screaming) down the roller coaster track and winning prizes on the midway.
We have a full week of happy times planned ... hope to see you every day!
The Silver Beach Carousel in partnership with St. Joseph Today will host the Fourth Annual Easter Eggstravaganza. There will not be an Egg Hunt this year, but in its place guests will enjoy some NEW and FUN EGG-CITEMENT as the Silver Beach Carousel will randomly award one prize egg to a child at the conclusion of every ride from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prizes inside the eggs will vary!
